Which items have the potential to go up in price when Shadowlands hits? Sky Golem could be one of those or will the new auction house system work against these rising prices? It’s a great question, but also a difficult one to answer. The reason for that is that it will be the first time we will have an expansion release with a new auction house system. We don’t know what to expect, so far there has been a lot of reposting since the new auction house and we have seen some increase in stock.
Yesterday I was in Hikons stream and two people (Daywaker1999 and Fudu93) were talking about the Sky Golems to buy them now and sell them in the first months of Shadowlands. This made me do some research on The Undermine Journal and see what it did in early Battle for Azeroth.
Why Would The Sky Golem Value Go Up?
A lot of times we can reflect on the history of values. When it goes up or when it goes down. From that, we can get a good indication of what we need to do as flippers, but how much we need to pay or how much profit we will get is always a big guess.
The graph on the left shows the Sky Golem price two years ago (2018), just when Battle for Azeroth got released on the 14th of August. In blue (the average EU posting value) the value goes up above the 150k gold and stays for at least early October and the red line (total quantity posted on the EU) you see a drop after two weeks.
How this is possible has to do with the focus.
- People will be more busy leveling their main characters and alts.
- More people focus on new materials and items.
- People that discover that the new herbs will make a lot of gold, will get a Sky Golem to make it easier and faster to herb them.

Why Would the Value Stay The Same or Even Drop?
Of course, there is the possibility now that the price of the Sky Golem will hardly move when Shadowlands comes out or even will drop in value. With the new auction house, we have seen some good and bad things happening in the auction house. People don’t need to undercut anymore in silver or gold but position.
The last one in is the first one out (what I still think is a bad system). The auction house is now more like an hourglass, there can only be bought from the lowest price point. Some sellers will get impatient and will try other ways to make their sales like losing the competition by selling for lower prices. This can have a snowball effect as well and when Shadowlands hits there will be more active players that will do maybe the same.
What will happen is unclear and the only thing we can do is speculate. The advice I can give you is, if you see a Sky Golem very low in price, buy it. If you are crafting them, wait to post them. But be careful with stocking up on them because we can’t be sure what will happen when Shadowlands hits and that counts for a lot of old content items. Also, check what kind of realm you are on. Are there a lot of Sky Golem sellers, how big is the population of your realm and is your realm getting linked in the next two months? All things you need to consider if you want to take the plunge.
