Blizzard End’s Multi-Boxing, What Now?

Today we got news from Blizzard that they won't allow players to use multi-boxing software anymore. This will have a huge impact on the economy of WoW and even the Token price. So what now?
The End of Multi-Boxing

Blizzard Announcement on Multi-Boxing

As World of Warcraft has evolved, our policies have also evolved to support the health of the game and the needs of the players. We’ve examined the use of third-party input broadcasting software, which allows a single keystroke or action to be automatically mirrored to multiple game clients, and we’ve seen an increasingly negative impact to the game as this software is used to support botting and automated gameplay. The use of input broadcasting software that mirrors keystrokes to multiple WoW game clients will soon be considered an actionable offense. We believe this policy is in the best interests of the game and the community.

We will soon begin issuing warnings to all players who are detected using input broadcasting software to mirror commands to multiple accounts at the same time (often used for multi-boxing). With these warnings, we intend to notify players that they should not use this software while playing World of Warcraft. Soon thereafter, the warnings will escalate to account actions, which can include suspension and, if necessary, permanent closure of the player’s World of Warcraft account(s). We strongly advise you to cease using this type of software immediately to maintain uninterrupted access to World of Warcraft.

Thank you for your understanding.

What Does This Mean?

This means that you are not allowed to use any kind of multi-boxing software anymore like ISBoxer, Levelbuddy, Lavish, and OpenMultiBox. Blizzard will warn first but after that, there will be some form of banning applied to the accounts using this software.

However, you are still allowed to have multiple accounts and play them all simultaneously as long as you don’t use software that can control them all with one click of a button.

In theory, people are still allowed to multi-box, but this will become an almost impossible task. More people are now refunding their Shadowlands expansion because they don’t have any use for it now. Some are even quitting the game what I do find a bit strange. There are so many more ways to make gold and you can still solo farm. Those prices will go up again and a solo farm will become more valuable again.

What Will Happen Now?

Well, a couple of things are for certain:

  • There will be a lesser amount of gold makers in the game
  • Supply decreases
  • Lesser price walls
  • Prices go up

1New players and casual players will now get more value for the things they sell on the auction house as long they don’t undercut in price and rob themselves of gold. They will now also have a better chance to buy WoWtoken so they can play for free or use it as Blizzard balance. This has to do wit the fact their items they sell will have a higher value.

Impact on The WoW Economy

Three things will happen on different servers with this action from Blizzard.

  • Prices will drop because of offloading the stock by multi-boxers.
  • Prices stay the same because of the balance of stock
  • Prices go up because people start investing a lot then the other will offload their stock they still have. Prices drop again.

One thing is for sure, the price will eventually rise in value. How long it will take depends on the server. Will this impact the casual player later? Yes, but keep in mind that that casual player that sometimes sells something now will get a better value for their goods and more gold for players means more sales. An economy has to move and that can only be done by spending and earning. If one of these things changes then it will affect the economy in a lot of things.

I’m surprised by the number of people that multi-boxed. It’s 1/3 of the votes on the Twitter poll I posted few hours after the announcement from Blizzard. I did expect some people but not one third. Maybe this was really needed after all.

The Token Price

One of the big questions is what kind of impact will this have on the WoWToken price? Well, the more valuable items will get, the more gold there will be in the World of Warcraft to spend. The more people will be able to buy a token now will increase the value of the token and the more valuable that gets the more people that want to spend IRL money will be more willing to buy one. Here you can keep track of the WoWToken price.

Shadowlands

This is gonna have a huge impact when Shadowlands get released. There will be lesser new materials on the auction house and that means higher prices for a longer period of time. Those Battle for Azeroth flasks I spoke of in another post will become a great market for the first month of Shadowlands.

Single farms will become very interesting because they will bring more value now, but also makes the new craft more expansive.

Other Ways To Make Gold

If you think that farming or multi-box farming was the only way to make gold, then you are in for a surprise. Ever heard of flipping? Buy low, sell high? This is the most profitable way to make gold in WoW. It’s not easy, but over time when you get more experience in items, markets and you’re realm you will be surprised how much gold there is to be made with flipping. This method costs way lesser time than farming or multi-boxing and that means more time to actually play the game or to make even more gold.

Also crafting is a very lucrative way of making gold. You can farm the materials yourself or buy them straight from the auction house.

If you are an ex multi-boxer, don’t give up. I made my gold with almost any farming and so did many others. Give it a try.

Time to Start Investing

Investing can be very interesting now because of the still lower prices that will go up sooner or later. If you have the knowledge about flipping or crafting then I would strongly suggest starting to look for deals you think will go up in price.

Look for high value and fast-selling materials like;

And much, much more. First look at your server, look at The Undermine Journal and look at your TradeSkillMaster addon because it’s very important not to make impulsive decisions now. Who knows how much people and multi-boxers still have in stock.

I do not recommend to invest in Sarotnite ore/bars and Titanium ore/bars, because of the pre-patch launch 9.0.2 that comes next week. There will be a lot of things people can do in Ice Crown and that could resolve into more farming of ore in that area. The best thing to do is to wait until the last week of the pre-patch has arrived and then start investing. You can read here more.

The same counts for Ghost Iron Ore that is now being posted in huge numbers on the EU auction house. I think that has to do with a large amount of botting activity in Mist of Pandaria.

If you need some guidance in flipping, then I have a guide for you here.

Conclusion

Is this action by Blizzard any good? Yes, I think so, and mostly, in the long run. We will see slowly the impact that multi-boxers had on the economy of World of Warcraft. Will this fully solve the huge amounts of posted items for very low prices? No, we still have to deal with the botters that also have a huge impact on the economy. However, this may give Blizzard a better way of detecting bots.

Investing will be and has always been the best way in gold making and now there is a chance people will gonna focus on those kinds of markets.

One Last thing,

It’s something that I absolutely loathe and that is toxic behavior against multi-boxers. Just because someone is playing differently than you does not give you the right to berate or directly insult someone. Because you can hide behind a computer and only then dare to say something about someone is the lowest thing I have come across in the gold making community. Stop doing this kind of behavior and get some help. It’s not healthy at all.
